CD ROM REQUIREMENTS
[ TOP
]
Our preferred media formats are:
1. CD-R disc
2. Replicated CD ROM disc
CD Recordable or Write Once Disc
As with replicated discs, write-once discs should also be free
from scratches and finger prints. Again, if possible supply pertinent
information such as total volume, etc.
They should also satisfy the following criteria:
- The disc should meet Red, yellow, White and/or Green Book specifications
- The disc should meet Orange Book Part ll., version 2 specifications
- The record / write power is always optimized for the blank
media in use, and to suit environmental conditions such as humidity
- The table of contents must be fixed.
- Only high quality / certified blank media is used.
- We prefer single session discs ( multisession discs will incur
higher mastering charges).
If you supply a multisession disc, you must specify which session
is to be replicated. Also the time of recording and number of tracks
must accompany the disc to enable us to identify the session easily.
If you supply a mixed mode disc (see below) please supply a track
listing of both data and audio tracks. Please ensure that your master
is labeled clearly on both disc and case, with the title of your
data application.

Mastering Input Sources (AUDIO)
Technicolor can master directly from the following Input media:
(i) 3/4" U'matic tape (Sony PCM 1610/1630 encoded).
(ii) 8mm Exabyte tape (with Level 1.0 Disc Description Protocol,
DDP)
(iii) or any CD, includes Replicated Discs to Philips Red Book
standard.
- Write Once or CD Recordable to Orange Book, Part Two standard.
- Sony / Sonic Solutions, Pre Master CD disc.
Source Input Information
Cue Sheet information is not required when supplying CD's to Red
Book standard, or Exabyte tapes with DDP files. If you are unable
to supply a Cue Sheet for the other formats, there will be a charge
incurred for Disk-Edits to produce one, and all access points will
be determined by the Pre mastering personnel.
Note [1]: Please ensure that
your supplied master is clearly labeled, both case and media, with
the same artist and title that appears on your order form. This
is particularly important if supplying CD-Recordable masters.
Note [2]: Please take the
time to ensure that the information on the supplied cue sheet is
correct. Any inaccuracies at this stage will often be transferred
to the finished product.
Duration of Completed CD's
The practical limit is 78.29, for discs that still comply to Red
Book specification. Although slightly longer duration's are physically
and technically possible we do not recommend them since playback
difficulties may be encountered with some players. Additionally
we will ask you to supply a release authorization for discs with
duration's between 78.30 and 80.00.
Time Code Requirements
Here are some general guidelines which should be followed!
(i) SMPTE, 30 fps and Non Drop Frame for 3/4" U'matic recordings,
or "ABSOLUTE" Time or "ABS" Time, if supplying on RDAT. Where ever
possible the time code generator should be locked to the word sync
reference signal.
(ii) Ideally the time code should commence from 00:00:00:00 at
the start of lead-in and must progress UNINTERRUPTED right through
your program material until the end of lead-Out. If you are unable
to commence at 00:00:00:00 please ensure that your Time code does
not progress past 23:59:59:29 as the tape will then have to be re
striped with time code at your cost.
(iii)When assembling tracks onto DAT, please ensure that this
does not create gaps in either the time code or the digitized signal.
DAT tapes that have discontinuity's at the edit points will have
to be either re-striped with timecode recompiled and a new track
list generated at your cost, including any delay for the additional
work.
PQ Encoding, General Information
PQ encoding allows a CD player to locate the required tracks and
index points on a disc by providing begin access, end access and
index points to 'mark' parts of a track.
Begin access point: This is
the point where a CD player will begin playing a track and is earlier
than the actual start of the track by an offset value of several
frames.
End access point: This is the
point where a CD player will finish playing a track by an offset
value of several frames. The end access points are only used by
the CD player during the random select, memory or shuffle modes.
During normal play, the end access points will be disregarded by
the CD player.
Note: When ever the gaps
between tracks are "4" seconds or less, end access points will not
be inserted unless otherwise requested. Please notify client services
if you feel that end access points will be required.
Offset Value: The ' offset '
value is required because some CD players vary in the accuracy with
which they select a given track. PMI will normally apply an offset
of "10" frames "0.3 second" when calculating access points. Please
notify client services if you require alternative offset values.
Index point: It is possible
to 'mark' index points within each track. The use of index points
may be very useful when individual tracks are unusually long. For
instance, the sections within a long orchestral movement may be
accessed directly through the use of index points. These index points
must be included during the PQ encoding process . Please note that
not all players are capable of utilizing this feature.
PQ Encoding, Limits
(i) Maximum number of tracks is [99].
(ii) Minimum track duration as measured between the begin access
point and the end access point is 4 seconds.
(iii) Minimum time between tracks to allow for emphasis flag change
is [2 seconds].
Note [1]: Please ensure that
the state of the emphasis flag is clearly identified for each track
on your cue sheet.
Note [2]: Please ensure that
the emphasis flag does not change during a track. If this occurs,
the supplied master will have to be returned.
(iv) Minimum time between tracks to allow for random access is
[10 frames].
(v) Please contact Disk-Edits with any special PQ encoding requirements
that you may have.
International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC)
ISRC codes can now be attached to CDR masters produced at Disk-Edits.
